In turbo and hydro generator applications, the FAS-106 M5 or FAS-110 M5 sensor is mainly used for end-winding vibration monitoring during operation. The end-winding vibration frequency is twice the electrical synchronous frequency of the generator. High vibration can lead to loosening of entire end-winding support system, wear of insulation material, rupture of coil and fatigue cracking of conductor, all of which require out-of-service repairs.
The dual outputs FAS-106/110 Fiber optic Acceleration Sensor has been developed to monitor and analyze vibration amplitudes of high voltage components subject to electro magnetic and mechanical stresses.
A fiber optic acceleration sensor is by design nonconductive and immune to electromagnetic interferences. Its passive principle makes it ideal for shock and vibration measurements in areas where conventional accelerometers (piezoelectric…) may create electrical discharges, cause changes in magnetic field distribution, prove hazardous to personnel, and impair reliable operation. It can be used in numerous applications including rotating machinery, high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, high voltage electrical transmission lines, explosive atmospheres, etc.
